What Is Medical Oncology? Neolife Medical Center’s Approach to Cancer Treatment

responsible for the drug treatment, diagnosis, and follow-up of cancer patients. At Neolife Medical Center, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapies are administered in accordance with the latest international guidelines. With an integrated structure that works seamlessly with PET/CT, MRI, CT, molecular diagnostic testing, and our Multidisciplinary Tumor Board, a personalized treatment plan is created for every patient.

The Power of Science and Technology in Cancer Care: A Personalized Oncology Approach

At the Neolife Medical Center Department of Medical Oncology, your cancer treatment process is planned through a multidisciplinary approach that includes the collaborative evaluation of surgical, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology teams. Our goal is to provide the most effective treatment while maintaining your quality of life at the highest possible level.

A Personalized and Evidence-Based Treatment Approach

Because cancer presents differently in every patient, our treatment plans are personalized by taking into account the type of tumor, its stage, genetic characteristics, and the patient’s overall health status. All cases that require further evaluation are reviewed by our Multidisciplinary Tumor Board.

Primary Treatments Used in Medical Oncology

Chemotherapy:

Chemotherapy is a drug treatment designed to stop cancer cells from growing, dividing, or spreading. Thanks to advances in modern medicine, these medications are now administered using highly precise protocols and personalized treatment plans. Because chemotherapy drugs can circulate throughout the entire body, they are particularly effective for metastatic cancers. Through careful dose adjustments, side-effect management, and supportive therapies, patients can experience a more comfortable treatment process.

Hormone Therapy:

Hormone therapy is used for tumors that are sensitive to hormones and works by reducing or blocking the effects of hormones that stimulate tumor growth. This treatment plays a central role in hormone-related cancers such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. Medications that suppress hormone levels or block hormone receptors can help control the tumor and slow disease progression.

Targeted Therapies:

This treatment approach is planned by analyzing the tumor’s genetic and biological characteristics in detail. Medications targeting specific molecules on or within the cancer cell allow healthy tissues to be affected as little as possible. Targeted therapies are one of the most important examples of “personalized treatment.” Because they directly attack cancer cells, they tend to be highly effective and generally have more manageable side effects.

Immunotherapy:

Immunotherapy is an advanced treatment approach designed to strengthen the body’s own immune system against cancer. The immune system naturally has the ability to recognize and destroy cancer cells; immunotherapy drugs enhance this response or help the immune system become more sensitive to cancer. Significant success has been achieved with immunotherapy in many cancer types, including melanoma, lung cancer, and kidney cancer

Supportive Therapies to Enhance Quality of Life:

Throughout the course of treatment, specialized supportive care programs are implemented to manage side effects, provide nutritional support, control pain, offer psychosocial assistance, and address symptom management.
Our goal is to maintain your comfort at the highest possible level throughout your treatment journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Medical oncology covers the diagnosis, drug treatment, and follow-up of all solid tumors, including cancers of the breast, lung, prostate, colon–rectum, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, ovary, uterus, as well as blood cancers and lymph node malignancies.

The duration of treatment varies depending on the type and stage of cancer, the medications used, and the patient’s overall condition. While some treatment protocols last for several months, others may continue over a longer period in the form of ongoing follow-up.

No. Immunotherapy is used only in patients who are considered suitable after evaluating the tumor’s genetic and biological characteristics, as well as the patient’s immune status. Eligibility is determined through detailed testing and specialist assessment.

Genetic and molecular tests performed on the biopsy sample taken from the tumor are analyzed. Based on the mutations or biomarkers identified in the tumor, personalized targeted therapies are selected for the patient.

PET/CT is used for diagnosis, staging, evaluating treatment response, and determining the extent of disease. It can be performed before treatment, at specific intervals during therapy, or whenever suspicious findings arise

During treatment, a balanced diet that includes adequate protein, vitamins, and minerals is recommended. Every patient’s needs are different; therefore, the most appropriate approach is to follow a personalized nutrition plan created in collaboration with an oncology dietitian.
